The Swedish Collegium Receives Grant from the Swedish Research Council for the SCAS-VUIAS
Fellowship Programme

The Swedish Research Council (VR) has generously awarded SCAS a grant amounting to SEK 3 150 000
over three years (2023, 2024, 2025) in order to enable Ukrainian scholars to spend time as  Fellows in
residence at the Collegium within the framework of the recently launched Virtual Ukraine Institute for
Advanced Study (VUIAS) initiative.

The initiative, which aims at supporting Ukrainian scholars in their effort to eventually found a Ukraine
Institute for Advanced Study in Kyiv, initially provides two kinds of Fellowships: VUIAS Fellowships
in Ukraine and VUIAS Fellowship abroad.

The SCAS-VUIAS Fellowship abroad programme offers one or two residential fellowships, mainly in
the humanities and social sciences, to Ukrainian scholars who are affiliated with a Ukrainian academic
institution and are usually based in Ukraine. The first call for applications is currently open (deadline:
30 June, 2023) and the arrival of the first Fellow/s is being planned for the autumn semester of 2023.

Behind the VUIAS initiative is the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, in close cooperation with partner
institutes in Ukraine, other parts of Europe (among them SCAS), and the United States.
